Niagara Falls Domed Dry Jet Boat Tour: All the Thrills, None of the Soaking
The Niagara Falls Domed Dry Freedom Jet runs the same 45-minute Class 5 rapids route through the Niagara Gorge as the open-top Wet Jet — at the same price — but an enclosed clear dome keeps every passenger completely dry throughout the ride. Same adrenaline, different experience.

Why Choose the Dry Freedom Jet?
The Dry Freedom Jet (also called the Freedom Jet) solves the one thing that puts people off the open-top Wet Jet: getting completely soaked. The vessel is fitted with a clear panoramic dome over the passenger section that deflects water regardless of how rough the rapids get. Passengers inside remain completely dry from departure to return.
The dome is not a barrier to the experience. The boat uses the same triple turbo diesel water-jet engines and the same captain as the Wet Jet, runs the same Class 5 Devil's Hole rapids route, and reaches the same top speed. You feel every pitch, spin and surge through the hull. The gorge scenery is identical. The only difference is that you step off the boat dry.
This makes the Dry Freedom Jet the better choice for families with young children, travelers with packed sightseeing days, anyone visiting in cool or overcast weather, or anyone who simply prefers to stay comfortable.
What You'll See and Feel
The route is identical to the open-top Wet Jet — 45 minutes through the Niagara Gorge:
- Devil's Hole — Class 5 whitewater rapids, the most intense stretch of the Niagara River
- The Niagara Whirlpool — massive natural eddy where the river turns 180 degrees
- Sheer Lockport dolomite gorge walls rising up to 300 feet on both sides
- Views of the Ontario gorge rim (Canada) and Devil's Hole State Park (NY)
- Live narration from the captain and crew
- All the speed and turbulence of the Wet Jet — without a drop of spray inside the dome
How the dome works
The clear panels wrap around the passenger section, sealed at the base. When waves crash against the boat and spray shoots over the hull, it hits the dome exterior and runs off — none enters the passenger area. The view through the dome is unobstructed.
You can see gorge walls, sky, and river in every direction.

- Sunscreen for walking around before/after the ride
Not allowed / restrictions
The same safety rules apply as the Wet Jet:
- No guests under 18 without an adult chaperone (18+)

- Pregnant travelers or guests with heart, back, or serious medical conditions
- Guests under 18 without an adult chaperone (18+)
Dry Freedom Jet FAQ
Are you really completely dry on the Freedom Jet?
Yes — the enclosed dome deflects all water regardless of how rough the rapids are. Passengers inside stay completely dry from departure to return. The dome does not muffle the sound or sensation of the ride — you feel every surge and spin through the hull.
Is the Dry Jet less thrilling than the Wet Jet?
The route, speed, and rapids are identical. The captain runs the same Class 5 Devil's Hole sequence. Most riders report the thrill is the same — some find the dry boat more enjoyable because they're not distracted by the cold and soaking. It's a different experience, not a lesser one.
Can I switch to the Wet Jet on the day?
Availability permitting, you can inquire at the dock. It's easier to book the option you want in advance — both boats can sell out in peak summer. The Wet and Dry boats depart on the same schedule.
What should I wear on the Dry Freedom Jet?
Normal comfortable clothes. No swimwear, no spare clothes, no towel needed. A light jacket is worth bringing for cool days since the dome doesn't insulate in cold weather.
Do I still need to arrive 45 minutes early?
Yes. The check-in process, participation agreement, and mandatory safety orientation are required for all riders regardless of which boat you're on. Late arrivals cannot board and are not refunded.
What Riders Say
Perfect for our group — we had elderly family members who couldn't get soaked, and the dome was ideal. Same thrilling ride without the drenching. The gorge is absolutely spectacular.
We chose the dry dome after reading reviews — best decision. You still feel every rapid and spin through the hull, but you stay perfectly comfortable. The Class 5 section is genuinely intense.
The crew was fantastic. The Freedom Jet dome is surprisingly spacious and everyone had a clear view of the gorge walls from every angle. I was skeptical but I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
My 7-year-old was too small for the front rows on the wet boat so we went with the dome. She absolutely loved it — all the excitement of the rapids without the soaking. Great choice for families.
